Job descriptionReq 8164681

Lob was founded in 2013 by technical co-founders with a vision to connect the world one mailbox at a time. Today, we're transforming the way businesses use direct mail and bringing the power of technology to a traditionally manual channel.

Our modern logistics and fulfillment engine helps businesses to build and scale high-quality, personalized direct mail programs without the operational burden. As we grow to meet the evolving needs of our customers and expand our product offerings, we’re building a team to shape the future of direct mail.

Business Operations Manager

At Lob, you'll own the cross-functional programs that make or break how the company actually runs — the initiatives that span Finance, Product, Engineering, Legal, our Print & Delivery Network, and Go-to-Market, and that stall when no single person is accountable for finishing them.

You'll take a program from an ambiguous problem to a documented, measured process with a named owner. You'll do the analysis, coordinate across teams that don't report to you, and deliver the executive communication required to get things done.

As the Business Operations Manager, you'll…

  • Own Program Execution: Run three to five concurrent cross-functional programs at once, each with a defined end state, a published status, named dependency owners, and a target completion date.
  • Drive Outcomes Across Teams: Push programs to completion through Product, Engineering, Legal, Security, Partner Operations, Solutions, and Go-to-Market — and escalate with judgment when a dependency stalls.
  • Diagnose & Redesign Workflows: Identify operational workflows spanning multiple teams and systems, quantify the cost of the current state, and design and implement the consolidated or automated replacement.
  • Deliver the Analysis: Produce the analysis behind program decisions using Lob's data and reporting stack and available AI tooling.
  • Hand Off What You Build: Document each program on completion and transition it to a permanent owner outside this role, with a metric that survives the handoff.
  • Communicate to Leadership: Prepare and deliver program reviews and status updates for the leadership team, including recommendations and the reasoning behind them.
  • Cover the Gaps: Provide backup for FP&A, Deal Desk, and Business Operations analytics deliverables, and support planning and execution of company-wide operating cadences like QBRs and leadership offsites.

What will you bring to this role…

  • Program Management Chops: Strong skills scoping ambiguous work, sequencing dependencies, and holding owners to dates across multiple organizations at once — you deliver outcomes through people who don't report to you.
  • Executive Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication. You can present to and hold a position with a leadership team, and you're equally willing to do the unglamorous recurring work.
  • Analytical Rigor: Fluency sufficient to reach a defensible number independently, with healthy skepticism toward convenient ones. Familiarity with BI/data warehouse tooling and AI-assisted analysis expected; SQL helpful but not required.
  • Self-Direction: Curiosity and initiative — you identify work that hasn't been assigned and go pursue it.
  • Comfort with Ambiguity: Ability to operate well in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and incomplete information.
  • Relevant Experience: 4-7 years post-undergrad in management consulting/corporate strategy (client-facing, multi-stakeholder delivery) or business operations, strategic finance, revenue operations, or chief-of-staff work with direct ownership of an operationally complex domain. Bachelor's degree required.
  • A Track Record: A demonstrated cross-functional outcome with a measurable result — you can speak specifically to what was broken, what changed, who had to agree, and what improved.
  • Industry Fit (preferred): Background in B2B SaaS, marketplace, logistics, or another operationally intensive business.

What applying to Lob usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through greenhouse can generally expect a structured process, as this ATS commonly organizes applications with standardized forms, resume and cover letter uploads, and sometimes optional demographic questionnaires. For roles at Lob, spanning business operations, customer success, sales, implementation, and accounting functions, applicants may encounter an initial recruiter screen followed by additional stages that could include hiring manager conversations, skills or case-based assessments, and panel interviews with cross-functional stakeholders. Greenhouse typically allows candidates to track application status through email updates, though response times vary and are not guaranteed. Some roles may also involve take-home exercises or presentations relevant to the position. Overall, candidates should prepare for a multi-stage evaluation process typical of greenhouse-using companies, while recognizing that exact steps, timing, and format can differ by role and department.'
