About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:  

Fitness Center workers and Building Supervisors provide supervision to all users of the fitness center, gymnasium, activity rooms, tennis courts, and soccer field. 

Team members ensure that all safety and emergency protocols are followed. 

*This job position is located on the Oakland Campus and cannot be done remotely.  

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Team members must be punctual, reliable, responsible, outgoing, and enjoy working with the public 

  • Arrive to work on time, wearing appropriate attire to perform duties. 

  • Communicate absences in advance and take initiative to find coverage. 

  • Follow procedures for opening and closing the facilities. 

  • Greet students/staff and faculty as they enter and exit the facility; assist them with any questions or concerns as they check in. 

  • Ensure that patrons follow policies and redirect, as needed. 

  • Maintain a professional demeanor during scheduled shift. 

  • Resolve concerns and escalate to supervisor, as needed. 

  • Answer phones in a friendly manner and assist callers with their inquiries. 

  • Provide regular, consistent cleaning and sanitizing of all exercise equipment. 

  • Do laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping; follow specific cleaning protocols. 

  • Frequently perform a comprehensive walk through of all facility areas (fitness center, activity rooms, gymnasium, tennis courts, soccer field); quickly fix or report any safety/policy issues and address cleanliness concerns. 

  • Take initiative to ensure safety in the facility. Promptly report maintenance and facility concerns such as broken and/or missing equipment or unsafe conditions. 

  • Anticipate, recognize, and react to all emergencies, and provide necessary, reporting to direct supervisor. Respond to all emergencies and follow procedures in the Emergency Action Plan. 

  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth in the staff handbook. 

  • Perform other admin/clerical duties as assigned by Campus Recreation staff members 

  • Perform other special projects: Tabling Support, Group Fitness Support, Tennis Court Support, Vehicle Support and more.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 6-12 months of experience in a customer service environment is preferred 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older 

  • Ability to pass a background check 

  • Willing to become CPR/AED Certified (current certification preferred but will be provided) 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Continual standing and moving throughout the facilities to accomplish tasks during shift.

  • Continual communicating in person, on the phone, and using apps to exchange information during shift.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequent cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities; refilling cleaning chemicals.

  • Moving in different positions, including bending and twisting, to accomplish tasks. 

  • Basic computer proficiency
