Job Summary

The Allen Lab at Purdue University College of Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a 2-year appointment focused on improving cancer survivorship in cancer care. This fellowship centers on pharmacoepidemiology, health analytics, and outcomes research, with a particular emphasis on supportive care medication (SCM) use among patients with pancreatic, colorectal, and other cancers.

Fellows will work on NIH-funded projects using large, population-based datasets (e.g., SEER-Medicare, SEER-MHOS) to examine patterns of SCM use, survival, and healthcare costs. The lab’s work integrates predictive analytics, pharmacoepidemiologic approaches, and stakeholder-engaged methods to generate actionable evidence that informs clinical practice, policy, and interventions to improve medication access and use for historically underserved populations. Opportunities to explore additional analytic frameworks (such as target trial emulation) can be developed as part of the fellow’s professional growth and independent research trajectory.

Qualifications

Required:

  • •  PhD, DrPH, ScD, PharmD/PhD, or equivalent in Pharmacoepidemiology, Health Services Research, Public Health, Biostatistics, or related field.
  • •  Strong quantitative and statistical skills (e.g., SAS, R, Stata).
  • •  Excellent scientific writing and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • •  Experience with large administrative or population health datasets (e.g., SEER-Medicare, EHR, or claims).
  • •  Familiarity with stakeholder-engaged research methods (e.g., Delphi panels, survey design).
  • •  Demonstrated commitment to improving health outcomes among populations with worse cancer outcomes
  • •  Peer-reviewed publications in cancer-related journals
  • •  Background in cancer care, aging, palliative care, or medication access research.

Professional Development & Resources

The fellow will:

  • • Receive mentorship to pursue career development funding (e.g., NIH K-series) and build an independent research trajectory

  • •  Access training opportunities in AI applications, geospatial analytics, and implementation science through Purdue and partner institutions.

  • •  Collaborate with the Health Analytics and Therapeutic Intelligence (HATI) Center, Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), and the Regenstrief Institute for interdisciplinary projects, informatics expertise, and access to additional clinical and population health data resources.

    •  Leverage opportunities for pilot funding, networking, and professional development through these partnerships.

    •  Work in Indianapolis, IN, home to major health systems, cancer research centers, and a growing biomedical and tech ecosystem.

Application Instructions

Please submit:

  1. 1. A cover letter describing your research interests, career goals, and fit with the Allen Lab.
