Job descriptionReq 8263850

As an infrastructure support engineer, your daily responsibilities are integral to ensuring technical excellence and operational efficiency, particularly in cloud environments. Your contribution as a first responder extends to automating day-to-day operations, responding to and escalating production incidents, and assisting development teams in incident resolution.

Entry-level consultants jumpstart their careers with our First Year Experience program: A year-long program that starts with Thoughtworks University, an immersive three-week training, plus monthly sessions dedicated to specific topics. And it’s important to call out that we consider tech talent from all walks of life. Whether you’re a computer science major with less than one year of professional experience, a coding boot camp graduate or a career changer who is working toward becoming a support engineer, you have the opportunity to grow in our community of passionate technologists.

Job responsibilities

  • Help with finding the root cause of incidents (RCA) and prepare reports to explain what happened and how to prevent it in the future.
  • Assist in communicating with clients about incidents, answering their questions and explaining how issues are being resolved.
  • Work alongside developers and service reliability engineers to improve the reliability of services by writing code for infrastructure and observability.
  • Collaborate with development teams to document responses to different types of incidents and create runbooks (guides for handling common issues).
  • Monitor how products and services are performing based on key performance indicators (KPIs) set by the business and take action when things go off track.
  • Learn, digest and subsequently apply the latest technology thinking from our Technology Radar to solve client problems.

Job qualifications

Technical Skills

  • You have less than one year of professional experience in technology.
  • You’re eager to learn new technical skills and concepts.
  • You’re curious about monitoring, alerting and observability.
  • You’re learning or have a basic understanding of networking.
  • You’re learning about at least one public cloud platform (e.g., Azure, GCP, AWS).

Professional Skills

  • You’re passionate about listening to and helping solve client technical problems.
  • You have strong communication skills, are proficient in English and feel confident sharing your ideas.
  • You can handle ambiguity and enjoy approaching challenges from different angles.
  • You thrive in a collaborative, open environment that values transparency, feedback and adaptability.
  • You’re willing to participate in a rotating 24x7 support team and can manage multiple tasks.

What applying to Thoughtworks usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through greenhouse can typically expect a structured process that begins with an online application and resume submission, often followed by an automated acknowledgment email. For technical and consulting-oriented roles such as those at Thoughtworks, candidates may encounter an initial recruiter screening, followed by assessments or exercises relevant to the position, and may include multiple stages involving hiring managers, technical evaluators, or panel discussions. Greenhouse-based processes commonly allow candidates to track application status through a candidate portal, though response times vary and communication practices depend on the employer's internal workflow. Applicants should generally prepare for a mix of behavioral and role-specific questions, and may be asked to complete take-home tasks or case studies depending on the role type and seniority level being considered.
