Job description

About Aptura AI

We work with frontier AI labs and companies across healthcare, finance, and legal providing the specialist knowledge and human oversight that makes AI models more accurate and reliable in these highly regulated domains.

In healthcare, we specialise in sourcing clinicians experts and annotating medical data at scale that is used to train the models such as labelling and reviewing consultation notes, medical images or pathology reports.

The projects we manage tend to sit at the heart of how AI learns to understand real clinical interactions from consultations, workflows, and the delivery of care that directly affects both clinicians and patients. Projects we have been involved in, include SNOMED Medical Coding for Medical Device Registration, AI powered MDT platforms and AI-assisted Clinical Trials Recruitment.

We're a lean, in-person team based in London. We move quickly, hold ourselves to a high standard, and expect every individual to contribute directly.

About the role

As a second hire in the healthcare team it comes with a lot of responsibility and growth opportunities. The role involves staying up to date with the latest published literature for AI in healthcare. You will play a key role in designing and publishing benchmarks in collaboration with stakeholders. It also involves being a part of initial customer conversations and sourcing the right clinician. This role carries breadth and real ownership from day one with the unique opportunity to work directly with some of the world’s leading AI labs. You will work directly with the Head of Healthcare, Dr Abdul Rahyead (former NHS doctor and ex-founder).

Key responsibilities

  • Research: Staying up to date with academic literature, designing benchmarks and publishing research, building relationships with researchers and industry partners

  • Community Building: Growing the healthcare expert network, handling onboarding, maintaining timely communications and payouts for experts. Exploring creative ways to engage more clinicians through hackathons, platforms and IRL events

  • Business Development: Support commercial and partnership activities, including setting up GTM motions and outreach initiatives

Essential requirements

  • Qualified medical doctor with a minimum of 1 year clinical experience

  • Strong organisation skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and competing priorities

  • Ability to context-switch between clinicians, customers, projects and operational responsibilities without losing pace or attention to details

  • A proactive, self-directed working style, comfortable operating in an environment where the processes are still being defined and the playbook is being written in real-time

  • Strong research skills, able to critically appraise academic papers and publish benchmarks

Desirable attributes

  • Previously worked in industry or a startup, scale-up or similarly high-paced setting

  • Familiarity with data annotation/labelling, designing and developing evals for AI models

  • Track record of publishing research and working with academic institutions

  • Experience in a client-facing, commercial or business development role

What applying to Aptura AI usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through ashby can generally expect a structured online application involving a resume submission and possibly a brief questionnaire tailored to the role, such as ai-engineer, applied-scientist, or legal-counsel. Aptura AI's listings across engineering, science, legal, marketing, clinical, and general categories suggest role-specific screening steps may follow, potentially including recruiter conversations, technical or case-based assessments, and interviews with hiring managers or team members. The process may include multiple stages depending on seniority and function, with response times varying by team workload and role complexity. Applicants can typically track application status through the ashby-powered portal, which often provides updates or confirmation emails. As with most ashby-based systems, communication style and pacing can vary, so candidates should prepare flexible availability and role-relevant materials in advance.
