The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a world-renowned research and education hub at the forefront of natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and human-computer interaction. Established within the School of Computer Science, LTI pioneers innovative approaches to understanding, processing, and generating human language in both written and spoken forms.
LTI is seeking a Research Associate with expertise in natural language processing, machine learning, training of reinforcement learning models, and the design of evaluation frameworks for AI systems. This role will participate in work designing systems for scalable oversight of strong AI systems via auditable reasoning traces. A computer science background is required. Start date is immediate, and the position lasts through the end of December.
Core Responsibilities
- Attend weekly meetings with research sponsors and attend weekly mentorship meeting
- Implement and train neural language models using reinforcement learning/
- Analyze experimental results and prepare figures and other visualizations of the results.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Background in computer science required.
- 1-3 years of research experience required.

- A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
