About CircuitHub

CircuitHub is reshaping electronics manufacturing with The Grid, a factory-scale robotics platform that makes small-batch, high-mix electronics assembly radically more efficient. Think semiconductor-fab precision applied to the chaotic world of prototyping and low-volume production: a 10x throughput improvement in one of the world's most foundational industries.

We've raised $45M from top-tier investors including Plural, Y Combinator and Google Ventures, and we're already profitable. Our customers include a major EV maker, a top AI lab and many of the worlds largest companies.

The Grid isn't a prototype. It's live, scaling fast and delivering real revenue, and we're building the team that will scale it further.

The role

Mechatronics Engineers at CircuitHub own projects end to end. You'll start with a problem, often on our factory floor, and take it all the way to a working machine:

  • Understand the problem and turn it into a clear specification

  • Generate ideas and choose the right mechanism

  • Design it in CAD and prove it out with the engineering calculations

  • Prototype and build it, machining parts in our in-house CNC shop

  • Bring it to life with software on our in-house robotics operating system

We work AI-first. AI tools help you scope the problem, drive your CAD, run the calculations and write the machine software. The software side needs basic software engineering skills, not a software background: you'll write it with AI agents, supported by a dedicated software engineering team who build the operating system.

You must have built things before, ideally robots, whether as a hobbyist, student, employee or founder. We don't hire narrow specialists. We want engineers who can:

  • Diagnose system-wide failures from first principles

  • Prototype mechanical and software fixes on the fly

  • Work autonomously and communicate clearly with a team spread across sites

  • Take responsibility for how their machines perform in live production

Things you'll do

This is a design role with hands-on prototyping. For example:

  • Conceive new mechanisms to handle electronics parts and other robotic handling tasks, using AI to scope and specify the problem

  • Design gantries and end effectors in Fusion 360

  • Use AI agents to run the engineering calculations, and know when to distrust them

  • Machine prototype parts in our in-house CNC shop

  • Analyse end-effector behaviour from video and revise its geometry and control approach to improve throughput and reliability

  • Program machine behaviour on our in-house robotics operating system, with AI agents doing the heavy lifting

  • Specify sensors that catch errors while a machine is running, or monitor a chemical process

  • Prototype and deploy a new test robot for in-line PCB validation

  • Commission your machines and hand them over to our build team to scale up

  • Work across our US and UK sites to share what you've learned and shape the roadmap

Bonus skills

  • Experience programming machines, whether PLCs, robot controllers, embedded systems or Python

  • Programming and running CNC machinery

  • Design of chemical handling machinery

  • Optics

Pay and level

£45K–£125K depending on experience, plus equity.

A candidate at the lower end of the range might have:

  • Built some systems before, with some exposure to robotics or automation

  • Seen parts and subsystems through to manufacture as part of a design team

  • Knowledge of designing for machining

  • A keen interest in moving their career towards practical robotics

A candidate at the upper end might also have:

  • Led the build and deployment of large-scale automated systems

  • Written the software that controls their own machines

  • Designed for a wide range of manufacturing methods, from machining to sheet metal to injection moulding

  • Mentored more junior engineers

The range isn't a hard limit: if you're an expert in all of the above, we still want to talk to you. Not quite so experienced but passionate and keen to learn? Talk to us too.

Location

Full-time on-site at one of our UK sites:

  • Cambridge: our central Cambridge site, alongside the team designing, building and expanding the Grid.

  • London: our London site.

What applying to CircuitHub usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through Ashby can typically expect a structured and relatively streamlined application process, as this ATS commonly supports clear job postings, organized candidate portals, and automated status updates. For technical roles such as computer-vision-engineer, robotics-engineer, or software-engineer, candidates may encounter an initial application review, followed by recruiter screening and one or more technical or role-specific assessments. Manufacturing-engineer and production-worker positions may involve more practical or in-person evaluation steps depending on the role's hands-on nature. The process may include multiple stages, potentially involving conversations with team members or hiring managers. Response times vary depending on the volume of applicants and internal scheduling. Candidates can generally expect communication through the Ashby platform, including email notifications regarding application status or next steps.
