Job descriptionReq 8437076002

Req ID: FEQ427R279
Location: Tokyo, Japan

At Databricks, our core values are at the heart of everything we do; a culture of proactiveness and customer‑centricity guides us to build a unified platform that makes data and AI accessible to everyone. In Japan Public Sector, we help central ministries, agencies, local governments, and public institutions use data and AI to deliver better, more trusted services to citizens.

You will be the senior technical leader for a set of strategic public sector accounts in Japan, using your executive‑level technical credibility and government expertise to shape and execute their data and AI strategy.

Reporting to: Director, Field Engineering, Japan

The impact you will have

  • Own technical strategy for key Japan public sector customers, defining the target architecture and roadmap for their Databricks‑based data and AI platform.
  • Lead solution design for priority government use cases (e.g., citizen 360 and eligibility, program analytics, smart infrastructure, cybersecurity, fraud/waste/abuse).
  • Design for security and compliance, ensuring architectures meet public sector expectations on data residency, access control, governance, and auditability.
  • Turn pilots into platforms, linking Databricks to visible mission outcomes and using those wins to drive expansion across bureaus, departments, and levels of government.
  • Influence the ecosystem, collaborating with SIs, cloud providers, and public sector partners to deliver integrated, production‑grade solutions on Databricks.
  • Mentor others, coaching Solutions Architects and partners on how to work effectively with Japan public sector stakeholders and patterns on the Databricks platform.

What we look for

  • 5+ years in data platforms, analytics, or cloud architecture, including significant experience with public sector organizations in Japan.
  • Proven ability to build trust with senior government stakeholders (CIO, CDO, chief architect, bureau/department leaders) and lead high‑stakes technical discussions in Japanese.
  • Strong technical background in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing/Analytics, AI/ML, or Cloud Architecture, with a focus on solution design and platforms.
  • Experience architecting data and analytics solutions for public sector use cases (e.g., citizen services, program analytics, public safety, infrastructure, or cybersecurity).
  • Deep familiarity with Japan public sector decision‑making and delivery models, including how SIs and cloud providers support government projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate mission and policy needs into clear technical approaches and explain them to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Language: Native‑level Japanese and business‑level English.

If you’re excited about helping Japan’s Public Sector use data and AI to deliver better outcomes – while setting the technical bar for our GTM in Japan – we’d love to hear from you.
