About this role
Faire Pay is Faire's own payment method for retailers - think of it like a Faire-specific credit card - giving retailers discounts, payment flexibility, and predictable due dates on their wholesale purchases. Instead of paying for every order separately, retailers on Faire Pay get a single monthly statement, a transparent path to more time to pay when they need it, and savings on every order. We’re building a compelling reason for retailers to keep coming back to Faire, while managing real credit risk responsibly.
As a Senior Engineer (L4), you'll collaborate with us to:
- Own critical services in our Kotlin-based payments and backend systems that power Faire Pay — KYB/KYC verification and third-party integrations, credit limits, monthly statements, interest and fee calculation — with an emphasis on performance, accuracy, and compliance
- Collaborate with Product and Design to improve the retailer-facing experience, from enrollment and checkout through statements and repayment
- Partner with Risk and Data Science to integrate eligibility, underwriting, and limit-assignment signals, keeping those pipelines reliable as the product evolves
- Measure and iterate on program performance using experimentation and analytics, driving adoption and healthy repayment behavior
- Mentor engineers and help set the bar for design reviews, testing, and operational excellence on a system that moves real money
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years in backend systems; experience in payments, credit, or lending is a strong plus
- Technical Depth: Proficiency in Kotlin or similar object-oriented languages; strong grounding in distributed systems, service design, and data consistency
- Precision & Compliance: Comfort designing systems where correctness, auditability, and compliance matter
- Collaboration: Strong communication skills and a track record of partnering cross-functionally
- Data Fluency: Experience partnering with Risk and Data Science on risk models, underwriting pipelines, or experimentation frameworks
- Mindset: Curiosity about financial products and a drive to balance a great retailer experience with sound risk management
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent industry experience.

Salary range
Canada: the pay range for this role is $156,000 - $214,500 per year.
This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
Hybrid Faire employees currently go into the office 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a third flex day of their choosing (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday). Additionally, hybrid in-office roles will have the flexibility to work remotely up to 4 weeks per year. Specific Workplace and Information Technology positions may require onsite attendance 5 days per week as will be indicated in the job posting.
