Job description

About Us:

Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets through automating and streamlining the work of assurance and audit practitioners specifically within cybersecurity, privacy, and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). Put simply, we build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.

We’re based in San Francisco, CA and backed by top investors including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, DNX Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Justin Kan, Elad Gil, and more.

We value diversity — in backgrounds and in experiences. We need people from all backgrounds and walks of life to help build the future of audit and advisory. Fieldguide’s team is inclusive, driven, humble and supportive. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of team and culture that we are building, seeking teammates that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other's growth.

As an early stage start-up employee, you’ll have the opportunity to build out the future of business trust. We make audit practitioners’ lives easier by eliminating up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Financial Audit team at Fieldguide. Financial Audit is one of our most important strategic bets right now, and this is a high-impact role on a team that's building something genuinely new. We're not bolting AI onto traditional workflows; we're rethinking financial audit as agentic-first from the ground up. You'll own major workstreams tied to our largest customer onboardings and most ambitious product bets, working alongside engineers, product managers, designers, and financial audit subject matter experts who are all deeply embedded in the problem.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll write code every day, and increasingly write code with AI. We're an AI-native team using tools like Claude Code extensively, and we expect this person to push that boundary further.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build agent-driven experiences for financial audit workflows, deciding where autonomy makes sense and where the auditor stays in the loop

  • Own complex, end-to-end workstreams tied to onboarding our largest customers

  • Ship code from day one and ramp quickly into full ownership of significant product areas

  • Collaborate daily with product managers, designers, and financial audit SMEs to work through hard domain problems

  • Help shape technical direction and contribute to how the team thinks about agentic systems, AI tooling, and engineering best practices

  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to our interview process as the team scales

Who You Are

  • A strong full-stack engineer who writes code every day and wants to keep doing that

  • Comfortable in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where you figure things out as you go

  • High degree of ownership; you don't wait to be told what to do

  • Curious about AI and agentic systems, and already using AI coding tools in your workflow

  • Able to pick up complex domain concepts quickly. You don't need to know financial auditing, but you're the kind of person who can internalize it fast

  • Collaborative by nature, you want to be in the room with product, design, and domain experts working through hard problems together

  • Experienced leading projects and driving technical decisions with a bias toward action

Bonus Points

  • Experience in financial services, audit, accounting, or compliance

  • Prior work building AI or agent-driven product experiences

  • Familiarity with our stack: TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Node.js, PostgreSQL

  • Background working at high-growth startups where you wore a lot of hats

  • Experience with document processing or infrastructure work

What applying to Fieldguide usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through ashby for roles at Fieldguide can generally expect a structured process that typically begins with an online application and resume review, followed by recruiter or hiring team screening. Depending on the role, applicants may encounter multiple stages, which can include a recruiter conversation, hiring manager discussion, skills-based or take-home assessment, and panel interviews with team members. Ashby-based processes commonly emphasize organized scheduling and consistent candidate communication through the platform, including automated status updates. Response times vary depending on team bandwidth and role urgency, so candidates should not assume a fixed timeline.
