AI Finance Researcher (MBA Student)

About the Role

AI systems are becoming increasingly capable of building financial models, analyzing business performance, and generating investment research. Yet complex financial decisions still demand the experience, critical thinking, and professional judgment of seasoned finance experts.

At Julius Research, we're recruiting exceptional MBA students with professional experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Investment Banking (IB), Private Equity (PE), Venture Capital (VC), Hedge Funds, Corporate Finance, Asset Management, or Equity Research.

Your primary responsibility will be to create sophisticated financial challenges that test the limits of frontier AI models.

Your work will expose weaknesses in today's leading AI systems and contribute to improving their financial reasoning capabilities.

What You'll Do

  • Design expert-level financial research and analysis tasks inspired by real-world finance and investment workflows.

  • Create complex financial modeling challenges involving DCF valuations, LBOs, three-statement models, forecasting, budgeting, and scenario analysis.

  • Develop realistic FP&A problems involving revenue forecasting, budget variance analysis, cash flow planning, unit economics, and business performance evaluation.

  • Construct investment research scenarios involving M&A, company valuation, market analysis, investment due diligence, and capital allocation decisions.

  • Design multi-stage analytical problems that require interpreting incomplete data, reconciling conflicting information, and making defensible financial judgments.

  • Identify weaknesses in advanced AI models by evaluating their calculations, assumptions, analytical approaches, and financial conclusions.

  • Develop expert solutions, scoring criteria, and research benchmarks to measure AI performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Top 25 MBA program (or recent graduate), preferably with a concentration in Finance, Investments, or Corporate Strategy.

  • 2+ years of professional experience in FP&A, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Hedge Funds, Asset Management, Equity Research, or related finance roles.

  • Previous experience as an Investment Banking Analyst/Associate, Private Equity Associate, Venture Capital Associate, Investment Analyst, Equity Research Analyst, FP&A Analyst/Manager or Corporate Finance Analyst.

  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, financial modeling, forecasting, company valuation, or investment research.

  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:

    • Investment Banking & Private Equity: DCF valuation, LBO modeling, comparable company analysis, M&A, and transaction due diligence.

    • Venture Capital & Growth Equity: Startup valuation, financial projections, market sizing, unit economics, and investment underwriting.

    • Hedge Funds & Equity Research: Fundamental research, earnings analysis, financial forecasting, and investment thesis development.

    • Corporate Finance & FP&A: Budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial planning, management reporting, and three-statement modeling.

  • Excellent quantitative reasoning, problem-solving, written communication, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a leading investment bank, private equity firm, venture capital fund, hedge fund, Fortune 500 finance team, or high-growth technology company.

  • Proficiency in Excel financial modeling and tools such as Capital IQ, Bloomberg, FactSet, PitchBook, or financial planning software.

  • Interest in artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs), and AI applications in financial services.
