Job description
Welcome to the future of energy

Octopus is a tech-powered energy company. We believe technology has the power to address our greatest challenge, climate change, while also delivering incredible service and customer experience.

We are changing the way people interact with their energy company - by making it approachable, low cost, easy-to-understand, and most importantly, 100% renewable.

The team you'd be joining

The Flexibility-as-a-Service (FaaS) team is Octopus's tip of the spear for the distributed energy revolution in North America. We turn distributed energy resources — home batteries, EVs, heat pumps, smart thermostats — into virtual power plants that balance the grid, earn customers money, and make room for more renewables.

We are small, we move quickly, and we're building something that doesn't really exist yet. We live at the messy, exciting intersection of wholesale markets, utility programs, regulatory policy, and commercial strategy. That means the work is varied, the priorities shift, and the opportunities show up fast — sometimes with very little notice.

The role

This is a generalist role for someone who likes wearing a lot of hats and switching between them without losing the thread.

One day you might be helping draft regulatory comments for a utility commission proceeding. The next, you're pulling apart wholesale market pricing to shape a dispatch strategy. The day after that, you're building the deck for a business development pitch or turning around an RFP response on a tight deadline. You'll move between utility business development, wholesale market analysis, energy policy, and program delivery — often in the same week.

What applying to Octopus Energy usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through lever for Octopus Energy can typically expect an initial application review followed by communication from a recruiter or hiring coordinator if there is interest in moving forward. The process may include multiple stages, such as a recruiter screen, one or more conversations with hiring managers or team members, and potentially a skills-based assessment or task depending on the role type. Lever-based applications commonly allow candidates to track status through an online portal or email updates. Response times vary and are not guaranteed, so candidates may consider following up politely if they have not heard back after a reasonable period. As with most lever-based processes, requirements and stages can differ by department, seniority, and role, so candidates should generally prepare for some variation and clarify expectations when contacted.
