Job descriptionReq 1388749333

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

This is growth, not replacement. We’re not just offering a job, we’re inviting you to shape the future of cloud-native infrastructure at SAP and in all of Europe. We have committed to open source by donating our projects into the neutral NeoNephos foundation. Make your mark, invite others, and discover #SAPEUAICloudCareers. Let’s build what’s next together.

Gardener powers SAP’s global landscape and is trusted as the foundation for countless enterprise workloads at SAP and outside. We adopt the Kubernetes open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized SAP solutions and business applications. We provide solutions to run and orchestrate Kubernetes clusters on public cloud, hybrid or SAP-owned infrastructures for a variety of enterprise use cases inside and outside of SAP.
The Landscape Team is the guardian angel of any of those Kubernetes clusters. We ensure all the various parts of the system work together like a well-oiled machinery. We update components, add new parts and improve the system to always keep it available. If you’re passionate about operating, debugging and tuning large-scale cloud-native systems, this is your opportunity to make a real impact.
We’re building Apeiro, an open-source reference architecture that strengthens Europe’s digital sovereignty. This initiative is part of a broader movement to ensure security, sustainability, and compliance for cloud-to-edge computing. By joining us, you’ll contribute to a project that’s not just technical, it’s strategic for Europe’s future.

What you'll do
•    Operate the Gardener landscapes in the Apeiro showroom environment and at SAP.
•    Collaborate with development teams to ensure the various upstream Gardener components work seamlessly together.
•    Serve as technical expert during incidents, investigate and resolve issues at a deep technical level.
•    Troubleshoot and resolve issues and participate in Support-rotations for critical systems.
•    Monitoring system performance and implementing improvements to enhance stability and cost efficiency.
•    Automating routine tasks to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention, as well as improving mechanisms for landscape setups

What we're looking for
•    Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
•    Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with a collaborative, proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
•    Ability to clearly communicate and present complex technical concepts
•    At least 5-8 years experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role
•    Strong understanding of Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies
•    Proficiency in automation, scripting and programming languages like Bash, Python and Go (preferred)
•    Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or OpenStack.
•    Knowledge of tools such as Flux, Argo CD, GitHub Actions, Prometheus, Prow.
•    Experience in networking, Linux and security hardening procedures.
•    A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Meet your team
We are a team of builders, innovators, and collaborators. Our culture is rooted in openness and trust. We believe the best ideas come from diverse perspectives, and we create space for every voice to be heard.
We thrive on curiosity and continuous learning. This is a place where you can make an impact that matters. Your work will influence not only SAP but also Europe’s digital future. We support each other, we push boundaries together, and we never stop exploring what’s next.
We are extremely proud of what we have built with Gardener, and we would like you to be part of this journey. Gardener is not just a project; it is the backbone of SAP’s cloud-native infrastructure and a leading open-source solution trusted across industries.

What applying to SAP usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through successfactors typically begin by submitting an online profile and resume through SAP's careers portal, which commonly integrates with successfactors for application tracking and status updates. Applicants may receive automated confirmation emails and periodic status changes visible within the candidate portal. The process can generally include an initial recruiter screening, followed by hiring manager conversations and may include multiple stages such as technical or role-specific assessments depending on the position. Some roles may involve panel discussions or skills evaluations. Communication is often handled through the platform itself, though candidates may also be contacted by phone or email. Response times vary, and candidates are encouraged to monitor their application dashboard and email regularly. Preparing role-relevant examples and reviewing the job description closely is generally advisable.”
