Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Accreditation and Assessment, the Core Curriculum Assessment Manager manages the operational functions required for learning outcomes assessment, continuous improvement, and academic-effectiveness documentation for the University's core curriculum.
The position supports the Director of Accreditation and Assessment in ensuring institutional readiness for applicable state and SACSCOC expectations related to general education student learning and institutional effectiveness. It provides operational leadership, analytical expertise, and cross-university coordination for core curriculum assessment in collaboration with Curriculum and Academic Administration (CAA), University College, and participating colleges, schools, and departments.
The Core Curriculum Assessment Manager advances a data-informed culture of academic effectiveness by supporting faculty and academic partners in learning outcomes development and alignment, assessment planning, instructional improvement, and evidence-based decision-making across the core curriculum.
This role serves as the campus-wide operational lead for core curriculum assessment workflows and strengthens UT Austin's readiness for applicable federal, state, and SACSCOC expectations related to general education student learning and institutional effectiveness. The position supports all relevant SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation in which core curriculum learning outcomes and effectiveness are implicated; responsibilities are not restricted to any single section of the SACSCOC Principles. While the Director of Accreditation and Assessment defines institutional strategy, policy interpretation, and compliance direction, the Core Curriculum Assessment Manager manages the operational functions that implement those priorities.
Responsibilities
Core Curriculum Assessment Planning and Outcomes Alignment
- Coordinate institution-wide workflows for core curriculum learning outcomes development, alignment, assessment, and revision in collaboration with University College, CAA, and participating colleges, schools, and departments. Support faculty in developing and assessing learning outcomes and recommend improvements based on assessment findings. Coordinate proposed changes affecting core requirements or course approval criteria with CAA through established faculty governance and approval processes.
- Lead core curriculum assessment planning initiatives that support SACSCOC compliance, applicable Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board expectations, the multi-year core curriculum assessment cycle, and other institutional academic-effectiveness priorities.
- Manage timelines, templates, process maps, and institutional repositories for core curriculum assessment documentation; identify courses and develop student-work sampling plans for inclusion in each assessment cycle.
- Conduct quality reviews of core curriculum learning outcomes, assessment plans, assignment alignment, and rubrics to ensure quality, continuous improvement, clarity, measurability, alignment, and compliance with applicable accreditation expectations and obligations.
- Coordinate with CAA to align assessment planning and sampling with the approved core course inventory, review timelines, and changes to core requirements. Coordinate with University College on core curriculum priorities, assessment findings, and continuous improvement. Provide assessment findings to inform CAA and faculty committee reviews.
Assessment Operations and Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate and support the full cycle of core curriculum learning outcomes assessment, including faculty outreach, collection and secure management of student work, scoring, analysis, and documentation.
- Oversee core curriculum assessment workflows in the institutional assessment management system, including training, user support, data integrity, and reporting functionality, in coordination with other assessment managers and technology partners.
- Provide guidance on assessment methods, data collection strategies, and rubric design; coordinate rater calibration and scoring quality reviews to support consistent evaluation of student work across core curriculum areas.
- Produce summaries, dashboards, and analytic reports that distill core curriculum assessment findings for internal and external stakeholders; host results-sharing events with faculty and academic partners.
- Ensure that core curriculum assessment documentation aligns with applicable federal, state, and SACSCOC expectations and standards related to general education student learning and institutional effectiveness; prepare findings and evidence for required institutional, state, and accreditation reports under the Director's direction.
- Document the use of results for continuous improvement, consistent with applicable expectations for general education assessment; collaborate with University College, CAA, and faculty to develop recommendations, document improvement actions, and assess their effects on student learning.
Data, Evidence, and Analytics Infrastructure
- Manage technical platforms and workflows for core curriculum assessment-related data collection, reporting, visualization, and archival storage, including secure handling of student work and assessment records.
- Collaborate with the Office of Analytics and Reporting, University College, CAA, and other partners to maintain consistency between institutional data definitions, course inventories, sampling information, and core curriculum assessment documentation. Maintain assessment records and evidence repositories using the approved core course inventory and coordinate discrepancies with CAA and other responsible offices.
- Develop crosswalks, evidence bundles, and structured analytic reports that support core curriculum assessment, accreditation submissions, and institutional planning.
- When appropriate, integrate learning analytics, information visualization, and data-science tools into core curriculum assessment processes.
Faculty and Staff Training and Assessment Team Supervision
- Design and deliver workshops, webinars, seminars, consultations, and training curricula on core curriculum learning outcomes and assessment; assignment and rubric design; data interpretation and use of evidence; continuous improvement methods; and instructional alignment and academic effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain resource guides, templates, exemplars, online modules, and self-service tools that support faculty and staff capacity for core curriculum assessment.
- Serve as an operational liaison to University College, CAA, deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff engaged in core curriculum assessment work. Maintain regular coordination with designated CAA and University College staff to align assessment calendars, faculty communications, documentation requests, and reporting needs; reuse existing course documentation where appropriate to minimize duplicate requests.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and manage assigned graduate assistants and seasonal raters who support core curriculum assessment, including student-work scoring. Develop training materials, assign and review work, manage performance, coordinate schedules, and approve timesheets in collaboration with HR and business support.
Scholarship, External Visibility, and Special Projects
- Contribute, as time permits, to research articles, white papers, and conference presentations that highlight UT Austin's core curriculum assessment and academic-effectiveness work.
- Support grant-writing and external-funding efforts, as time permits, related to general education assessment, learning analytics, or instructional improvement.
- Participate in Director of Accreditation and Assessment-led strategic initiatives related to core curriculum assessment, academic effectiveness, accreditation readiness, policy alignment, and institutional improvement.
