As a FMAIII, you will lead, coordinate, and support complex financial planning, analysis, forecasting, reporting, and business process improvement activities for the Department of Medicine (DOM), including University and Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP) operations. You will serve as a financial advisor to divisional and departmental leadership and will be responsible for developing and interpreting operational and capital budgets, financial forecasts, variance and trend analyses, cost analyses, financial statements, and scenario models. You will perform complex and specialized financial assignments, provide recommendations to senior leadership regarding financial performance and operational decisions, and lead or coordinate financial projects, process improvements, and systems implementations.
Minimum Requirements:
Education/Training: Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.
Experience: Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.

- Must have financial experience with budgets, analysis, projections, financial reporting, problem solving. Like to have Academic Medical Center experience.

- Lead, plan, develop and coordinate the preparation of financial analyses and reports including, but not limited to, operational and capital budgets, financial statements, statistical reports, cost analyses, trend reports, and other relevant financial information. Exercise independent judgement in evaluating financial results, identifying financial and operational trends, assessing potential risks and opportunities, and developing recommendations for departmental and divisional leadership
- Lead complex financial forecasting, modeling, and scenario analysis for both University and DHIP. Complete complex financial analyses, forecasting and scenario analysis. Analyze historical and current financial performance to develop revenue, expense, labor, FTE, and operational forecasts; evaluate alternative financial scenarios; identify emerging risks and opportunities; and provide recommendations to leadership regarding financial performance and operational planning.
- Develop, maintain, and interpret complex labor and FTE forecasts, including analysis of staffing levels, compensation costs, productivity trends, vacancies, and other workforce-related financial drivers. Evaluate the financial impact of staffing scenarios and provide recommendations to divisional and departmental leadership to support workforce and budget planning.
- Serve as a financial advisor to, and collaborate with, Division Business Managers and DOM leadership to advise units on financial position, budget to actual results, budget development, and other related financial matters. Interpret financial information and provide recommendations to leadership regarding corrective actions, resource requirements, financial risks, and opportunities for improved operational performance.
- Lead the financial analysis and forecasting associated with the projections of the operational activities of the department, including the development of revenue and expense projections, identification of key financial drivers, evaluation of financial risks and opportunities, and preparation of recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Develop, analyze, and interpret financial statements by department, division, service line or faculty member as needed.
- Provide Senior Leadership with complex financial analysis, forecasting, scenario modeling, and Ad hoc reporting and analysis, and assist with special projects assigned by leadership in terms of financial analysis and monitoring of activities within the Department. Develop recommendations and present findings, trends, risks, and opportunities to leadership as appropriate.
- Perform monthly and year end closing process for the department and the divisions and administrative units within to include processing of journal entries and review and approval of expenditures on all types of fund codes across the department ensuring the proper funds flow occurs. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting and appropriate flow and utilization of funds. Identify and resolve complex financial issues arising during the closeout process.
- Participate in special projects as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer and Associate Director of Finance, such as projects related to business process improvements within the University. DHIP and systems implementations. As well as assist with the design and development of new procedures, financial reports or systems. Serve as a subject matter resource for assigned financial processes and systems, and provide recommendations regarding process design, internal controls, reporting requirement, and opportunities to improve financial operations.
- Serve as a key financial liaison and subject matter resource to divisional administrators and other central office managers or program directors along with finance offices within DHIP and School of Medicine. Coordinate the resolution of complex financial issues and facilitate the exchange and interpretation of financial information.
- Assist with ad-hoc inquiries and analyses as requested by the institution and other senior leadership.
- Provide cross-functional backup support for the Finance Office operations as needed on various activities to include processing of i-forms, Salary, Effort and Payroll changes, journal entry processing, monitoring of Concur expenditures and other procurement activities, to ensure continuity of financial operations.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $75,736.00 to USD $142,004.00.
