The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University invites applications for the Simon and Ethel Flegg Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Montreal. The one-year postdoctoral fellowship will begin on September 1, 2027. Candidates should specialize in the pre-modern period and complement existing strengths in the department. The department will give special consideration to candidates with a strong emerging record of research and a demonstrated commitment to teaching.

Alongside an original research agenda, the Flegg fellow will make an active contribution to Jewish Studies at McGill, including through building intellectual community among faculty and students. The selected candidate must also agree to take up local residence in Montreal during the academic year for the tenure of their fellowship. The Flegg fellow may have the opportunity to teach one undergraduate course as a course lecturer in their area of specialization. Course lecturer contracts are subject to the terms of the MCLIU collective agreement. The fellow will also deliver a public lecture.

The annual stipend for the Flegg Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is $58,000 CAD, plus health benefits. Fellows can apply for additional research and travel support.

Applicants must have recently been awarded (within 5 years) a PhD or equivalent. The selected candidate must have their PhD in hand by July 1, 2027.

Questions about the Flegg Postdoctoral Fellowship should be directed to Professor Ula Madej-Krupitski: ula.madej-krupitski@mcgill.ca.
