The Role We are seeking a hands-on Battery Test Engineer with a proactive, get‑it‑done attitude to join a team qualifying next‑generation BMS algorithms and architectures. In this role, you will be instrumental in validating pack-level battery systems and constructing automated Python data pipelines to turn algorithm designs into production-ready consumer products.

Location: Cupertino, California, USA

Work Type: Contract

Work Schedule: On-site

What You’ll Do

  • Execute Pack-Level Test Plans — Run complex electrical, thermal, and battery cycler test plans specifically at the pack level, delivering high-quality dataset outputs on schedule.

  • Build Data Automation & Ingestion Pipelines — Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate data ingestion, process raw cycler logs, and streamline continuous test data analysis.

  • Analyze & Investigate — Process high-volume test data to support algorithm engineers in evaluating pack behavior and investigating electrical or thermal anomalies.

  • Troubleshoot & Maintain — Diagnose equipment, BMS firmware interactions, and pack-level sample failures; repair and calibrate test hardware as needed.

  • Automate Validation Workflows — Co-develop automated testing frameworks and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups alongside test engineering peers.

What You Bring (Must-Haves)

  • Pack-Level Battery Testing — Extensive hands-on experience running test profiles, qualification protocols, and diagnostic routines on multi-cell lithium-ion battery packs using high-channel battery cyclers (e.g., Arbin, Maccor, Chroma).

  • Python Data Automation & Ingestion — Strong Python programming skills dedicated to test automation, raw data ingestion, ETL/pipeline creation, and processing large time-series datasets.

  • Hardware & Circuit Debugging — Practical experience working directly with electrical circuits, source meters, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and physical pack assembly hardware.

  • System Troubleshooting — Proven track record of diagnosing complex electrical, firmware, and system-level issues during validation.

  • Education — M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or B.Sc. with substantial relevant industrial experience.

What We’d Love to See (Nice-to-Haves)

  • BMS & Protocol Expertise — Experience validating BMS algorithms and firmware, along with familiarity in hardware communication protocols (CAN, I2C, SMBus, SPI).

  • Battery Chemistry Knowledge — Understanding of lithium-ion cell characterization, aging degradation modes, and thermal dynamics.

  • Data Visualization — Experience building custom data dashboards or automated reporting tools in Python (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Plotty/Matplotlib).

  • Cross-Functional Communication — Ability to articulate complex data trends and hardware failures clearly to algorithm, firmware, and system engineering teams.
