Job description

About Norm Ai
Norm Ai, the agentic law company, has a client base with a combined $30 trillion in assets under management.

Norm Ai pioneered Legal Engineering, the process that empowers lawyers to build and supervise domain-specific AI agents with Norm’s proprietary suite of no-code software tools. Norm Ai technology is deployed inside many of the largest and most consequential institutions in the world.

Norm Ai is also the technology behind Norm Law, LLP, a separate but affiliated AI-native law firm built for the era of agentic AI. Norm Law’s attorneys advise leading institutions across private funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate, registered funds, and financial regulation, using the same legal intelligence platform that powers Norm Ai’s products.

AI Fluency:
Norm Ai expects all team members to be fluent in AI. Successful candidates actively use AI in their day-to-day work to support thinking, creation, and problem-solving. They use it to improve the quality and speed of their work and to continuously refine how work gets done end-to-end.

Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate and discuss their AI usage throughout the interview process, including concrete examples of tools, workflows, and outcomes. We look for practical, hands-on experience, not theoretical familiarity.

This Role

Design the client experience for a new kind of law firm.

Norm Law pairs excellent legal service with software that makes working with outside counsel more transparent, interactive, and modern than the traditional law firm experience.

As a Staff Product Designer on the Deployment Team, you’ll design practice-group-specific software that brings that experience to life: tools that help clients see what is happening, help partners deliver excellent service, and make complex legal work easier to navigate.

This is a forward-deployed role. You’ll work directly with Norm Law partners, clients, and Forward Deployed Engineers: defining the ideal attorney and client experience, turning messy requirements into prototypes and shipped products, and making the work tangible for internal and external stakeholders.

You’ll work in a continuous design and delivery loop, not a traditional handoff model. You’ll sketch and prototype quickly, bring a point of view, and stay close to implementation and QA as the product takes shape. Some problems will need deep exploration; others will need a sharp call that day. You’ll need the judgment to know the difference.

Success means improving the quality and coherence of what ships while matching the pace of the Deployment Team. The work should also push Norm’s design system forward, revealing the reusable components and interaction patterns we need as practice-group workflows become more sophisticated.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead product design for practice-group-specific software delivered by the Deployment Team.

  • Join client and partner scoping conversations from day one, alongside the internal team.

  • Turn ambiguous needs into clear workflows, prototypes, and product decisions.

  • Design workflows that help clients and legal teams understand progress, make decisions, and move matters forward.

  • Prototype in code or with AI-assisted tools when that helps the team learn faster.

  • Work alongside Forward Deployed Engineers through implementation and QA, giving hands-on product and design feedback as the build takes shape.

  • Help the team make high-quality product decisions under real client, technical, and time constraints, while partnering with FDEs on the technical approach to realizing the target experience.

  • Identify when a client- or practice-specific solution should become a reusable product, component, or design-system pattern.

  • Bring what you learn from client delivery back to the broader product, engineering, and design teams.

What We’re Looking For

Core Qualifications

  • 6+ years of product design experience, including ownership of complex B2B or enterprise product experiences.

  • Strong interaction, visual, and systems design craft.

  • Experience designing complex workflow, data-dense, or client-facing software.

  • Comfort working through ambiguity without waiting for a perfect brief.

  • Strong client-facing presence and the ability to explain design decisions to senior stakeholders.

  • Experience partnering directly with engineers from early scoping through implementation.

  • Ability to move quickly without losing clarity, judgment, or product quality.

  • Good taste, strong product judgment, and a bias toward making ideas concrete.

  • Fluency with AI-assisted design, prototyping, and development tools.

  • A portfolio demonstrating shipped product work, not only concepts or final mockups.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in a forward-deployed, solutions, consulting, agency, or other client-embedded environment.

  • Experience designing legal, financial, healthcare, or other expert professional workflows.

  • Experience designing collaboration tools or software that connects external users to complex internal workflows.

  • Comfort with Git, React, and version-controlled prototyping workflows.

  • Experience turning fast-moving product work into reusable components, interaction patterns, or design-system contributions.

  • Experience working at an early-stage or fast-growing company.
