Job descriptionReq 1419127333

We help the world run better

At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What You’ll Build

  • In this role, you’ll support SAP’s Quantum Machine Learning activities by working on QML models, helping to validate mathematical concepts, and assisting the QML Lead in day-to-day research and development tasks
  • You’ll be responsible for contributing to the mathematical validation of QML approaches and supporting the team’s exploration of how quantum computing methods can be applied in a business context
  • Your work will feed into SAP’s ongoing efforts to understand and develop practical applications of Quantum Machine Learning — giving you direct exposure to applied research in an emerging technology area
  • You’ll work closely with SAP’s QML Lead in a small, focused team. The role starts with clearly scoped tasks and guided collaboration, with more responsibility added as you grow into the position. You’ll have a dedicated point of contact for mentoring and questions throughout your internship
  • You’ll build foundational knowledge in Quantum Information Sciences, core quantum computing algorithms, and the mathematical methods underlying QML — a solid starting point for anyone interested in pursuing a career at the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who takes the initiative, perseveres, and stays curious. You like to work on meaningful innovative projects and are energized by lifelong learning.

  • Student (f/m/d) at a university or a university of applied sciences
  • Bachelor Student (f/m/d) at University level in Mathematics
  • Last Year of Bachelor Studies or first Year of Master
  • Excellent Maths Skills are mandatory; expertise in programming are nice to have.
  • Curious, Self-organized, team collaboration
  • Language requirements (fluency in German, good understanding in English)
  • Working from Walldorf office is required (once or twice a week)

Where You Belong

  • The team operates with a start-up mindset within a large enterprise — small, focused, and driven by intellectual curiosity. There’s a high tolerance for uncertainty, as the work is genuinely exploratory. Rigor and depth matter more than speed.
  • Someone with a strong mathematical foundation and a genuine fascination for quantum computing — not just as a buzzword, but as a scientific discipline.
  • You’re comfortable working in ambiguity, asking questions, and learning as you go. Self-motivation and intellectual honesty are more important than having all the answers upfront.
  • This is not a large org where work gets handed over Jira tickets. Collaboration happens in real conversations — you’ll work side-by-side with the QML Lead, discuss ideas, work through problems together, and get direct feedback.
  • You’ll develop a rare skillset at the intersection of quantum computing and machine learning — areas where few practitioners exist today. Beyond technical skills, you’ll gain experience doing applied research in an industry context, which is a strong differentiator for both academic and industry career paths.
  • You’re not joining a team that talks about quantum computing — you’re joining the team that is building SAP’s quantum computing capability. The work is early-stage, the impact is real, and the access to senior expertise is direct. Few internships offer this level of proximity to frontier research.

Your set of application documents should contain a cover letter, a resume in table form, school leaving certificates, certificate of enrollment, current university transcript of records, copies of any academic degrees already earned, and if available, references from former employers (including internships). Please also describe your experience and skills in foreign languages and computer programs / programming languages.

This is a SAP global, strategic, paid working student position that provides students with opportunities to find purpose in their careers.
