Job descriptionReq 4368183009

At Spaceium, we are building spacecraft systems designed to push the boundaries of what's possible in orbit. As an Electrical Engineer, you will own the design, testing, and integration of the electrical and electronic systems that power and control our spacecraft — from schematic and PCB through harnessing, bring-up, and mission integration, in high-stakes, resource-constrained environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design spacecraft avionics: schematic capture and PCB layout for power, control, and signal boards
  • Design and build wiring harnesses and manage electrical integration across subsystems
  • Bring up, test, and debug electronic boards and subsystems
  • Develop and run electrical tests — power, signal integrity, functional, and environmental
  • Design power systems (batteries, power distribution, regulation) and support EPS architecture
  • Own documentation: schematics, ICDs, test procedures, and reports for design reviews
  • Set up lab instrumentation and test equipment, and support hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, embedded software, and systems engineers
  • Support spacecraft integration, environmental testing, and anomaly resolution

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Solid foundation in circuit design, analysis, and electronics
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar)
  • Comfort with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, DMMs)
  • Exposure to at least one programming language (Python, C, or C++)

What We're Looking For

We're building technology that hasn't been done before. Experience is helpful, but curiosity, drive, and the ability to learn quickly matter more. If you're excited about spacecraft, enjoy solving hard engineering problems, and want to help build something new, we encourage you to apply — whether you're early in your career or more experienced.

Preferred Skills

  • Creative problem solver with strong first-principles thinking, capable of assessing risk and making decisions with limited data.
  • Experience in a nimble, technical engineering role, with a scrappy, entrepreneurial approach to meeting tight time or budget constraints.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing real electronics — student design teams (rocketry, CubeSat, FSAE), research, or industry
  • Experience bringing up custom PCBs from bare board to working hardware
  • Familiarity with power electronics, motor drive, or spacecraft EPS
  • Experience with microcontrollers, sensors, and embedded integration
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces (RS422, I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, collaborative team player, and detail-oriented with a focus on quality.

Additional Requirements

  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones.
  • This role requires a physical presence at the Ottawa facility.

Compensation

  • Salary: $75,000 – $110,000 CAD per year
  • Equity: 0.1% – 0.5%

If you're excited about shaping the future of space systems, we'd love to hear from you.

Please submit any projects that you have worked on.
