The University of Miami Health System (“UHealth”) Information Technology & Systems Department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time UHealth IT Data Scientist.

The UHealth IT Data Scientist provides expertise in data science methodologies, including predictive modeling and machine learning. This incumbent is this position designs and implements advanced analytics solutions while collaborating with various stakeholders across the University of Miami enterprise. The UHealth IT Data Scientist works to define problem statements, develops hypotheses, and builds analytical models that inform business decisions and outcomes. This role requires both independent initiative and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance data-driven strategies.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements advanced analytical solutions, including predictive and prescriptive models, to support clinical, operational, financial, and technical decision-making.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Engages in the machine learning development lifecycle, including data acquisition, model development, training, and deployment, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.

  • Works with external machine learning models, assisting stakeholders in understanding and applying model outputs to real-world scenarios.

  • Communicates technical concepts and analytical results to non-technical audiences, enhancing the accessibility and impact of data-driven insights.

  • Participates in cross-functional teams to integrate data science methodologies into workflows and technical products.

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of documentation for data extraction, handling, and analysis, ensuring the integrity and quality of data products.

  • Continuously expands knowledge of healthcare analytics and data science best practices, incorporating new techniques and tools into daily work.

  • Supports the preparation and maintenance of data products, such as dashboards and interactive reports, collaborating with data engineering teams for deployment.

  • Engages with the broader enterprise community to promote the use of data science and participate in educational initiatives.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions

  • Collaborate with academic and medical partners to design, develop, and deploy LLM‑based chatbots and agents that support research‑driven interventions and enhance patient experience.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the SCAN360 website, data assets, and web applications.

  • Co-author presentations and articles on cancer epidemiology and related topics, with academic partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                            

  • Master’s degree in relevant field

  • Certification in relevant specialty or field

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion

  • Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
