Verdacert provides certified translations of civil and legal documents for immigration, court, university, and medical use, with a specialization in MENA-region languages. We're looking for a Legal French Translator to join our reviewer network, translating and certifying French-language legal and civil documents into English for use in USCIS filings, US courts, and other official proceedings. This is a detail-driven role: accuracy, consistency, and adherence to certification standards matter more than speed.
What you'll do
- Translate legal, civil, and court documents from French into English, including birth and marriage certificates, court records, contracts, and academic transcripts
- Review and edit machine-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and legal terminology
- Apply correct transliteration conventions for proper nouns, names, and dates per filing requirements (e.g., USCIS naming conventions)
- Sign and issue certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the final translated file
- Meet defined turnaround deadlines (standard, express, and rush) for individual and law firm client orders
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in French and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Strong knowledge of legal and civil terminology in both French and English, including French civil registry and court document conventions
- Meticulous attention to detail with names, dates, numbers, and official seals
- Ability to work independently against firm deadlines
- Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements (e.g., 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)) is a plus
Nice to have
- Experience translating for immigration attorneys or law firms
- Familiarity with additional MENA-region languages
- Background in legal, paralegal, or court interpreting work
