Web Design Awards runs an editorially-curated, judged awards program for the web's best design work, with a published scoring rubric and a directory that buyers and hiring teams browse to find studios. We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to help build and improve the public-facing site that powers the submission process, the judged index, award pages, and the studio directory.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain responsive, performant user interfaces for our public site, including the award index, individual award pages, and directory listings
- Translate design and product requirements into clean, maintainable frontend code
- Collaborate with designers, backend engineers, and product stakeholders to ship new features end to end
- Optimize pages for speed, Core Web Vitals, and SEO given that award pages need to be Google-indexed and discoverable
- Ensure layouts adapt fluidly across breakpoints and devices, and meet accessibility best practices
- Write and maintain tests, participate in code review, and help improve frontend tooling and standards
What we're looking for
- Solid professional experience building production frontend applications with modern JavaScript (or TypeScript)
- Strong command of HTML, CSS, and a component-based framework such as React, Vue, or similar
- Experience optimizing for web performance, responsiveness, and accessibility
- Comfort working directly with designers to implement pixel-accurate, polished interfaces
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
- Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and take ownership of features from spec to ship
Nice to have
- Experience with SEO-conscious frontend development or server-side rendering
- Experience building or maintaining public directories, listings, or ranking/scoring interfaces
- Familiarity with design systems and componentized UI libraries
