Web Design Awards runs an editorially-curated awards program that indexes the web's best design work, judged year-round by a named jury of working designers against a published rubric. We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer to help build and maintain the platform that powers submissions, judging, the public index of winning sites, and the studio-matching experience for hiring teams.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain full stack features across the submission, judging, and public directory experiences
- Develop and maintain APIs and backend services that support scoring, ranking, and search across a growing index of sites
- Build responsive, accessible front-end interfaces used by designers, studios, and hiring teams
- Collaborate with product and design to translate rubric logic and business rules into reliable, well-tested code
- Optimize application performance, page load, and database queries as traffic and the index grow
- Write and maintain automated tests, participate in code review, and help improve engineering practices
What we're looking for
- Professional experience building and shipping full stack web applications
- Strong proficiency with a modern JavaScript/TypeScript stack, including a common front-end framework and Node.js or similar backend runtime
- Solid understanding of relational or document databases, API design, and web performance fundamentals
- Experience building responsive, cross-browser, accessible interfaces
- Comfort owning features end-to-end, from data model to UI
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a small team
Nice to have
- Experience with SEO-sensitive, content-heavy, or directory/marketplace-style products
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance auditing tools
- Experience with search, ranking, or scoring systems
