Web Design Awards is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its engineering team. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to build and scale the platform behind a curated index of award-winning websites, judging tools, and the hiring/agency marketplace features that support it — writing high-quality code, mentoring other engineers, and helping shape technical direction as the product grows.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and ship features across the web application, from database to UI
- Own significant parts of the codebase, including architecture decisions and technical tradeoffs
- Collaborate closely with product and design to translate requirements into reliable, maintainable systems
- Review code and mentor other engineers, raising the bar on quality and craft
- Diagnose and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues in production
- Participate in technical planning and help set engineering best practices
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong command of at least one modern backend language and one modern frontend framework
- Track record of owning features end-to-end, from design through deployment and monitoring
- Solid understanding of relational databases, APIs, and web application architecture
- Experience working in a fast-moving, small-team environment where priorities shift
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with distributed teammates
Nice to have
- Experience with performance optimization and web accessibility standards
- Familiarity with SEO-sensitive, content-heavy, or marketplace-style web products
- Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small technical initiatives
