Web Design Awards runs an editorially-curated awards program that judges submitted websites against a published rubric and named jury, giving winners a permanent, Google-indexed award page, an embeddable badge, and placement in the directory that buyers browse when hiring designers and agencies. We're looking for a Technical Writer to help create clear, accurate documentation and content that supports our judging process, rubric explanations, studio and agency directory, and the wider site experience.
What you'll do
- Write and maintain clear documentation covering how judging, scoring, and submissions work for designers, studios, and hiring teams
- Translate the judging rubric and process details into plain-language guides, FAQs, and help content
- Collaborate with the team to produce accurate descriptions of awards, badges, and program mechanics for the site and directory
- Edit and standardize existing content for clarity, consistency, and tone across the platform
- Create supporting materials such as onboarding guides for new judges, submitters, and agencies
- Review published content periodically to ensure it stays accurate as the rubric or process evolves
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a technical writer, content writer, or similar role producing clear documentation for a web-based product or platform
- Strong writing skills with the ability to explain structured, rules-based processes (like scoring or eligibility criteria) in plain language
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills with close attention to accuracy and consistency
- Comfort working independently to gather information from stakeholders and turn it into finished content
- Experience organizing and structuring documentation (FAQs, guides, help centers) for different audiences
- Familiarity with basic web publishing tools or content management systems
Nice to have
- Experience writing about design, marketing, or creative industries
- Familiarity with SEO best practices for web content
- Experience writing for a directory, marketplace, or ranking-based platform
