Brief Summary:
The Fabrication Shop Project Manager supports shop projects by fabricating, assembling, and finishing metal (and/or other material) components using standard fabrication tools and equipment. This role works from drawings, cut lists, and work instructions to produce accurate parts and assemblies while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
Principal Responsibilities
- Fabricate parts and assemblies by cutting, drilling, forming, fitting, and fastening materials to specification.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment (as applicable) such as band saws, shears, presses, press brakes, ironworkers, grinders, and drill presses.
- Perform welding and/or assist welding operations (as applicable), including tack-up, fit-up, and post-weld cleanup.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, sketches, cut lists, and basic tolerances; verify dimensions during and after fabrication.
- Measure and inspect work using hand tools and precision tools (e.g., tape measure, squares, calipers) and document results as needed.
- Deburr, grind, sand, and finish parts to meet quality and safety requirements.
- Maintain shop organization: stage materials, label parts, manage scrap, and keep work areas clean and safe.
- Conduct routine equipment checks and basic preventive maintenance (e.g., cleaning, lubrication) and report issues requiring repair.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use, safe material handling, machine guarding, and hot-work requirements where applicable.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members to prioritize work, communicate progress, and troubleshoot fabrication issues.
Required Skill/Experience (at least one)
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in a fabrication shop or completion of a fabrication/welding training program (technical school, apprenticeship, or equivalent).
- Ability to read basic fabrication drawings and use measuring tools accurately.
- Familiarity with common shop safety practices and safe tool use.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, and gripping hand tools.
- Ability to work in a shop environment with noise, dust, fumes (with appropriate controls), and temperature variations while wearing required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, protective footwear).
Principal Responsibilities
1. Oversees the execution and implementation of detailed project plans in concert with stakeholders. 2. Manages several routine projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation and prioritization objectives are met. 3. Assists in refining and re-sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned projects, as needed. 4. Works closely with business analysts, technical professionals, end users and project stake holders during the requirements, solutions design and implementation phases to develop detailed project plans for implementation. 5. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria. 6. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion. 7. Manages client expectations and provides issue/risk identification and escalation pathways. 8. May supervise the implementation team of cross-functional project and technical resources. 9. Designs, develops, and executes communication systems to ensure effective exchange of information between project stakeholders, senior management, and staff. 10. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations. 11. Complies with standard policies and procedures. 12. May supervise and train junior project managers. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.
