Backend Engineer

ABA Rank operates an independent, ranked directory of Applied Behavior Analysis clinics, software, and service vendors, built on a public scoring methodology and served through a public website and API. We're hiring a Backend Engineer to help build and scale the systems behind the index, search, ranking computations, and the public API and MCP server that power the platform.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power search, filtering, and the ranked index
• Work on the data pipelines and nightly recompute jobs that keep listings and rankings current
• Extend and maintain the public JSON API, structured data (schema.org JSON-LD), and MCP server integrations
• Improve reliability, performance, and scalability of core backend systems as traffic and listing volume grow
• Collaborate with product and frontend engineers to ship features end to end
• Write clean, tested, well-documented code and participate in code review

What we're looking for

• Professional experience building backend services in a modern language such as Python, Go, Node.js, or Java
• Solid understanding of relational databases, API design, and data modeling
• Experience building and maintaining production REST or JSON APIs
• Comfort working with scheduled jobs, batch processing, or data pipelines
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and standard deployment practices
• Strong debugging skills and a track record of shipping reliable software

Nice to have

• Experience with search or ranking systems
• Familiarity with schema.org structured data or building developer-facing APIs
• Experience working with or building MCP servers or other AI-agent integrations
