Job descriptionReq 8175521

Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.

The Community You Will Join:

At Airbnb, we maintain and extend a world-class payments platform that is the engine of commerce and trust for our global community. This platform currently supports 220 countries and over 65 currencies, connecting dozens of payment providers and processing billions of dollars annually. To enable and support growth of the marketplace, we continually innovate unique ways for guests to pay for stays and experiences that are memorable and in many cases life changing.  Whether it's providing accepting relevant forms of payments, breaking payments into more manageable parts, or combining payments for several individuals seeking to travel and share together, Airbnb strives to make paying trips as simple as possible, while protecting our guests and hosts with security and assurances we have their backs every step of the way.

The Difference You Will Make:

Within the payment organization, the platform team comprises individuals that manage our products and experiences related to checkout, payment methods, risk, compliance, and hosts payouts.  We are seeking a strong Senior Platform leader to manage all aspects of our guest payment capabilities and experiences.  This includes enabling new global and local payment methods, onboarding and validating methods with our processing partners, managing post transaction interactions such as refunds and transaction reporting, and finally creating and expanding our growing portfolio of installments and financing solutions to help pay for trips and trip related services.  This role is a key leadership position within the platform product organization and will report into our Global Director of Payments Platform Product management.

A Typical Day:

  • Deliver and evolve Guest Payments Platform Strategy & Roadmap: Lead the development and execution of the Payments platform strategy and roadmap for Guest Pay-ins, refunds, payment plans, methods and processing resilience.  This also includes product leadership working alongside engineering on redundancy, vaulting, processor performance and optimization and availability across the entire payment funnel.
  • Manage Execution & Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end product development lifecycle for the various sub domains within the guest payment team, from concept and feasibility analysis to execution, launch, and post-launch optimization.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Guide and collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Design, Product Marketing, Platform Risk, Compliance, etc.) to deliver high-quality capabilities and ensure dependencies are managed effectively.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of senior platform managers, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Contribute to overarching Payment Platform Strategy: Act as a key contributor to the broader payments platform strategy, providing expert insights on the competitive landscape, emerging technologies, and consumer trends.
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication: Manage stakeholder expectations and present plans, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership and other cross-functional partners to ensure alignment and influence outcomes.
  • Operational Excellence: Define and monitor key product metrics, ensuring product quality and continuous improvement to meet operational and business goals.

Your Expertise:

  • 12+ years of product management experience in inbound (pay-ins) and outbound (pay-outs) money movement within a payments, finance, or heavily transactional company.
  • Proven product management experience with a deep understanding of stakeholder needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: able to push back, ask questions, and challenge others while creating lasting, collaborative partnerships.
  • Experience working directly with non-product teams such as legal, tax, compliance, risk, and payments operations.
  • Direct experience working with Engineers.
  • Startup experience: comfortable with a fast pace, changing needs, and limited resources. Bonus points if you have also worked at large, scaled organizations and can balance the best of both worlds.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of unstructured and diverse information into a single, clear set of requirements.
  • Global perspective: experience building products for different countries and cultures.
  • Bonus points for experience with global and local payment methods that are not credit cards and experience across Payments, Risk, and Compliance systems and tools.
