AI Engineer

Casework produces AI Act conformity files, Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments, and Article 9 risk documentation for companies deploying AI hiring tools — work that spans the EU AI Act, Colorado AI Act, Illinois HB 3773, and NYC LL 144. The firm runs a productized, fixed-scope engagement model (four-week production cycles, fixed price) rather than open-ended consulting, and production is augmented end-to-end by AI tooling across discovery synthesis, regulation mapping, draft assembly, and citation verification. We're hiring an AI Engineer to help build and strengthen that internal production machinery.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain AI-assisted workflows that support discovery synthesis, regulation mapping, draft assembly, and citation verification for conformity documentation
• Develop and refine prompting, retrieval, and evaluation pipelines that keep AI-generated drafts accurate, well-cited, and reviewable by humans
• Work closely with the delivery team to translate methodology steps (intake, discovery, drafting, review, handoff) into reliable, repeatable tooling
• Build internal tools for verifying factual and regulatory claims against source documents
• Monitor and improve the quality, consistency, and speed of AI-produced outputs across engagements
• Identify where automation can safely replace manual production work, and where human judgment must remain in the loop

What we're looking for

• Professional experience building production systems that use LLMs or other AI models, including prompting, evaluation, and retrieval-augmented generation
• Strong software engineering fundamentals — you can design, ship, and maintain reliable backend systems, not just prototype notebooks
• Experience building or integrating tools for document processing, citation checking, or structured content generation
• Comfort working with ambiguous, high-stakes text (legal, regulatory, or compliance-adjacent content is a plus) where accuracy matters more than speed
• Ability to work independently in a small, specialist team with a tightly scoped, productized service model
• Clear written communication for documenting how systems work and why

Nice to have

• Familiarity with AI regulation frameworks (EU AI Act, US state AI laws) or interest in compliance-adjacent domains
• Experience building internal tools for a services or consulting-style business
• Background working with small teams shipping fixed-scope, fixed-price engagements
