We're looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and scale the systems that support our documentation production process — from data pipelines to internal tooling to the infrastructure that powers our AI-augmented drafting and review workflow.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that support Casework's document production pipeline
- Develop and optimize data models and storage for structured regulatory and client information
- Integrate with AI/LLM services used in discovery synthesis, drafting, and citation verification
- Build internal tooling to support intake, discovery, drafting, and review workflows
- Ensure system reliability, security, and data integrity given the sensitivity of client and compliance data
- Collaborate with product and delivery teams to translate methodology requirements into robust software
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Go, or similar)
- Experience designing and working with relational and/or document databases
- Experience building and maintaining production APIs and services
- Comfort working in a small team where you own systems end-to-end
- Solid understanding of software architecture, testing, and secure coding practices
Nice to have
- Experience integrating with LLM or AI/ML services in a production environment
- Experience working with sensitive or regulated data
- Familiarity with document generation, workflow automation, or compliance-adjacent tooling
