AI Engineer

DoubleTap Consulting is a senior-only software consultancy that builds custom websites, product platforms and internal software for streaming, SaaS and commerce teams. We're hiring an AI Engineer to work directly with clients and our senior engineering team to design and ship AI-powered features and tooling as part of client engagements — no account layer, no junior bench, just builders talking to builders.

What you'll do

• Design, build and ship AI/ML-powered features and integrations within client-facing web platforms and internal tools
• Work with LLM APIs and related tooling to build production features such as retrieval, summarization, agents, or automation workflows
• Evaluate, fine-tune, or prompt-engineer models to meet accuracy, latency and cost requirements for a given use case
• Build and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure needed to support AI features in production
• Partner directly with clients and senior engineers during scoping to translate ambiguous AI ideas into shippable, maintainable systems
• Set up monitoring, evaluation and observability for AI systems so client teams can own and operate them after handoff

What we're looking for

• Professional experience building and shipping AI/ML-powered features in production, not just prototypes or research
• Strong software engineering fundamentals — you can write, test and ship production-quality code, not only notebooks
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, embeddings, vector search, or fine-tuning workflows
• Comfort working directly with clients and communicating tradeoffs in plain language, without an account layer to filter it through
• Experience with modern web stacks (Node, React/Next.js or similar) sufficient to integrate AI features into full-stack applications
• Ability to work independently on ambiguous problems within a fixed engagement timeline

Nice to have

• Experience with Python-based ML tooling alongside a JavaScript/TypeScript web stack
• Experience standing up evaluation frameworks or observability for LLM-based systems
• Prior consulting, agency, or client-services experience
