Sports Scientist

Elite Hockey HQ builds adaptive, hockey-specific training programs — combining periodized workouts, skill development, and daily readiness tracking — used by players from youth leagues through NCAA and major junior. We're looking for a Sports Scientist to help shape the science behind our training methodology and ensure the programs and readiness models we deliver to athletes are effective, safe, and grounded in evidence.

What you'll do

• Design and refine periodized training programs across off-season, pre-season, and in-season phases for hockey athletes at varying levels
• Analyze readiness data (HRV, sleep, soreness, and load metrics) to improve the algorithms driving daily training recommendations
• Collaborate with coaches, developers, and content teams to translate sports science principles into program logic and athlete-facing guidance
• Evaluate and validate training and recovery protocols using performance and biometric data
• Support the development of position-specific testing and benchmarking standards (forwards, defense, goalies)
• Stay current on research in athlete monitoring, recovery, and hockey performance to keep programming evidence-based

What we're looking for

• Degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related field
• Experience designing or evaluating periodized training programs, ideally with team-sport or ice hockey athletes
• Working knowledge of athlete monitoring tools and metrics (HRV, wearables, readiness/load scoring)
• Comfort working with data to inform program design and iterate based on outcomes
• Strong communication skills to translate scientific concepts for coaches, athletes, and non-specialist teammates
• Ability to work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams building a digital training platform

Nice to have

• Experience working with junior, collegiate, or professional hockey organizations
• Familiarity with wearable integrations such as WHOOP or Fitbit
• Background in applied research or publishing in sports science journals
