Feanix is rebuilding animal breeding from the genome up.
We’re a YC-backed startup using whole-genome sequencing and custom ML models to help dairy farmers make better breeding and herd management decisions. Our technology is genuinely novel: we can sequence a full genome from a single hair at a fraction of traditional industry costs, our models achieve ~90% prediction accuracy on traits where existing approaches sit closer to ~30%, and we’re pioneering farm-specific genomic predictions that turn genetics into practical, actionable decisions.
That technology is translating into real adoption. In a short time, we’ve grown to serve roughly 1% of the U.S. dairy industry — and reached $10M+ in ARR, with significant demand still ahead of us. We started with dairy because our founders grew up on dairy farms and understand firsthand the problems we’re solving. But genetics is foundational to every agricultural industry, and dairy is only the beginning.
We’re building Feanix with a small, high-caliber team where people have meaningful ownership and work end to end. There are no unnecessary layers and very little room for busywork — just difficult problems at the intersection of biology, data, and software that haven’t been solved before.

About The Role
Product at Feanix has been carried this far by a founding PM working alongside the founders. The groundwork is real: shipped products, customers and a decision engine farmers act on every day. What comes next is a product organization, and this role builds it: taking over product management from the founding PM, growing it into a function, and bridging the CEO's vision into what the team builds.
You'll be our first dedicated product leader, reporting directly to the CTO, and you'll operate as a player-coach from day one. The player half: personally owning product management for the data platform that everything at Feanix runs on — the pipeline that turns a DNA sample from a single hair into genomic predictions, herd insights, and per-animal decisions farmers act on daily. The coach half: designing and building the product organization as engineering scales, hiring the PMs who will eventually own each product area, and putting in place the lightweight product process a fast-moving team will actually use.
The platform mandate is concrete. Over the next 5 months, we need to scale from 20 to 50+ dairy farms (from 1,000s to 100,000s of cows under management), and over the next 12 months to 100s of farms and new offerings beyond what we ship today. New farms arrive with unique management practices and existing constraints; the platform has to absorb that variation without one-off builds. The platform is not an internal convenience — it is what turns complex data into meaning delivered to farms: clear, justified decisions farmers can act on and trust. Every product Feanix ships, and every one we haven't built yet, delivers that meaning through this foundation.
The function-building mandate is just as concrete. Product and engineering scale as one system at Feanix: every engineering team forms as a PM/EM pair. As engineering splits into teams, you hire the matching PMs — we expect 2–3 direct reports within your first 12 months, growing toward one PM per engineering team. You'll define what good product management looks like here, hire against that bar, and develop the people you bring in.
You'll also meaningfully contribute to product strategy alongside the CEO and CTO. The CEO holds the vision; the CTO owns the translation of vision into strategy and execution; you are a full participant in shaping that strategy and the accountable owner of executing the product side of it.
Modern product management is being rebuilt in real time. You have a vision for what PMs become in an agentic, automated, LLM-driven world — and you've been building in that world, not reading about it. You'll bring that vision to how the product function itself operates at Feanix, not just to what it ships.
What You'll Do
- Grow product management from founding-PM mode into a function: take over the groundwork already laid, then add the hiring plan, role definitions, and the discovery, prioritization, and documentation practices a small, fast-moving team — and the agents working alongside — will actually use
- Personally PM the Feanix data platform as your first hands-on mandate: APIs, data products, and the contracts and abstractions that let new products be built without rework, consumed by agents as readily as by engineers
- Make farm onboarding fast and flexible in partnership with Farm Success and Farm Ops, so the next hundred farms are faster to onboard than the last twenty and the platform absorbs per-farm variation without one-off builds
- Hire and develop PMs as engineering teams form, growing to 2–3 direct reports within 12 months, each paired with an engineering team
- Meaningfully contribute to product strategy with the CEO and CTO, and own the roadmap and prioritization that turn that strategy into shipped product
- Run the platform as a real product: know its customers — engineering, bioscience, and the agents they deploy — measure adoption and friction the way you would any product surface, and prioritize the roadmap by the value it lets Feanix deliver to farms
- Bridge legacy systems to modern products. Feanix decisions reach farms through a traditional dairy management platform. The stability, quality and accuracy of that delivery is crucial to farm success.

What You Bring
- 8+ years of product management experience, including experience managing and developing PMs, ideally with time in both a startup and a mid-size company with structured product practices
- A track record of building — not inheriting — product process: you've stood up a product function, or been the first PM who defined how product worked, and you can show what you built
- Demonstrated experience as a PM for data platforms, APIs, or infrastructure products where your customers were engineers and internal teams
- Experience delivering meaningful business value from complex data — turning domains like genomics, sensor data, or large real-world datasets into clear, justified decisions, especially in traditional or unglamorous sectors
- A working vision for the future of product management in an agentic, LLM-driven world — backed by how you already work: LLMs, agents, and automation are your daily tools, and you can show what you've built with them
- Ability to translate between technical platform product capabilities and the business and customer outcomes it enables
- Strong written communication: clear specs, clear tradeoffs, clear decisions
- Comfort operating as a player-coach: hands-on IC product work now, without losing sight of the function you're building for later
- Ideally able to work west coast hours
- Ability to travel 20–25% of the time (mainly to western states in the US) to customer locations and our headquarters
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building decision platforms or decision-support products
- Genomics or bioinformatics exposure
- Previous experience with the dairy industry or agriculture more broadly
- Experience taking an internal platform to external consumers (partner APIs, integrations)
- Statistics and machine learning fundamentals
