Job descriptionReq 1419687233

We help the world run better
At SAP, we keep it simple: you bring your best to us, and we'll bring out the best in you. We're builders touching over 20 industries and 80% of global commerce, and we need your unique talents to help shape what's next. The work is challenging – but it matters. You'll find a place where you can be yourself, prioritize your wellbeing, and truly belong. What's in it for you? Constant learning, skill growth, great benefits, and a team that wants you to grow and succeed.

What You'll Build

You'll own the design system that powers Concur Mobile on iOS and Android — and stay close enough to the product to keep it honest. That means building foundational components where none exist, resolving patterns that have diverged across teams, and aligning Concur's mobile design language with enterprise standards. It also means designing real product experiences inside the Concur app, so the system stays grounded in how people actually work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design System Ownership. Build and maintain the Concur Mobile design system as the single source of truth for iOS and Android — components, patterns, tokens, and guidelines.
  • Component & Pattern Design. Specify components and interaction patterns in depth: anatomy, states, behavior, accessibility, and usage guidance that engineers can implement without ambiguity.
  • Product Design. Design complex features inside the Concur app, keeping the system grounded in real product contexts and user workflows.
  • Platform Alignment. Reconcile diverging patterns across teams and align Concur's mobile design language with enterprise design system standards.
  • Engineering Collaboration. Partner closely with mobile engineers to ensure components ship as designed; participate in reviews and contribute to technical feasibility discussions.
  • Accessibility & Inclusion. Ensure every system element meets iOS and Android accessibility standards — touch targets, color contrast, screen reader support, and inclusive design throughout.
  • AI Surface Design. Design AI-powered features within Concur Mobile — expense intelligence, smart suggestions, agentic workflows — with a clear focus on trust, transparency, and explainability. Use AI-assisted prototyping and automation in your own workflow to move faster and validate ideas earlier.
  • AI Output Quality & Context. Evaluate AI-generated content within Concur surfaces; apply context engineering principles to ensure AI features respond accurately to user intent and enterprise data.
  • AI Adoption. Help the broader design team build fluency with AI tools and integrate them into everyday practice.
  • Adoption & Education. Enable product designers to use the system confidently — through documentation, guidance, training, and hands-on support.
  • Data-Driven Iteration. Use quantitative and qualitative feedback to drive continuous improvements to components, patterns, and tooling.
  • Mentorship. Raise the bar for T1 and T2 designers through how you work — the rigor of your documentation, the clarity of your tradeoff decisions, the quality of your craft.

What You Bring

You think in systems and design in details. You know what makes a mobile experience feel native on iOS and Android — and you know how to codify that into patterns other designers can actually use. You've built and maintained enterprise design systems, not just contributed to them. You're a creative problem solver who thrives in ambiguity, communicates decisions clearly across disciplines, and stays sharp as tools and platforms evolve. Mentoring junior designers isn't a side responsibility for you — it's how you multiply your impact.

  • A portfolio demonstrating design system ownership and mobile product design is required.
  • Finalist candidates will be asked to complete a design challenge as part of the interview process.

  • Proven experience building and maintaining design systems for enterprise products — not just contributing, but owning.
  • Deep knowledge of iOS and Android platform conventions: interaction patterns, navigation models, component behavior, and what feels native on each.
  • Experience designing AI-powered product experiences — communicating system behavior, confidence levels, and limitations in ways users trust.
  • Strong creative thinking and complex problem-solving skills; comfortable navigating ambiguous, high-stakes design challenges.
  • Learning agility — you adapt quickly as mobile platforms, AI capabilities, and design tooling evolve.
  • Accessibility expertise for mobile: touch targets, color contrast, screen reader support, and inclusive design in practice.
  • Advanced Figma proficiency: component architecture, variables, design tokens, and multi-theme systems.
  • Effective communicator — able to present design decisions clearly to engineers, product managers, and senior stakeholders across time zones.
  • Comfortable in engineering conversations about mobile implementation; familiarity with how design systems are built in code is a strong advantage.
  • AI Fluency. Hands-on experience designing AI-powered features and integrating AI tools into your daily workflow. Comfortable evaluating AI output quality, applying context engineering principles, and communicating system behavior in ways users trust. Familiarity with Responsible AI principles in enterprise contexts.

Preferred

  • Experience aligning a product-level design system to a broader enterprise design language.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI (RAI) principles and context engineering in enterprise UX contexts.
  • Experience evaluating and improving AI output quality within product surfaces.
  • Usability testing experience applied to design system components and patterns.
  • Exposure to information architecture for enterprise mobile products.
  • Familiarity with design token architecture and multi-brand or multi-theme system design.

What applying to SAP usually looks like

Based on publicly available information, candidates applying through successfactors typically begin by submitting an online profile and resume through SAP's careers portal, which commonly integrates with successfactors for application tracking and status updates. Applicants may receive automated confirmation emails and periodic status changes visible within the candidate portal. The process can generally include an initial recruiter screening, followed by hiring manager conversations and may include multiple stages such as technical or role-specific assessments depending on the position. Some roles may involve panel discussions or skills evaluations. Communication is often handled through the platform itself, though candidates may also be contacted by phone or email. Response times vary, and candidates are encouraged to monitor their application dashboard and email regularly. Preparing role-relevant examples and reviewing the job description closely is generally advisable.”
