Stanford University School of Medicine is world renowned for leading edge education, research, patient care and medical advancements. The Department of Educational Programs and Services (EPS) is home to departments and programs that are central to the educational mission of the Stanford University School of Medicine.  We serve all populations of students and trainees who participate in the School's programs: Stanford MD, MS, MSPA, and PhD students; visiting MD students seeking clinical clerkships; postdoctoral scholars and medical fellows; and medical practitioners seeking further professional enrichment. Our goal is to provide a Stanford School of Medicine experience worthy of our students' and trainees' talents, aspirations, and dedication.

Department Overview

The Office of Curricular Affairs within Educational Programs and Services (EPS) plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical education at Stanford University School of Medicine. The office oversees the Stanford MD Program’s required curriculum, encompassing 24 pre-clerkship courses and 10 clerkships, delivered by more than 200 faculty members to approximately 500 medical students at any given time.

In close partnership with faculty curriculum deans and the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Policy (CCAP), Curricular Affairs leads the strategic design, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the MD curriculum. The office advances innovative approaches to medical education, ensures alignment with accreditation standards established by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), and supports Stanford’s commitment to excellence in preparing the next generation of physician leaders.

Job Purpose

The Office of Curricular Affairs seeks an accomplished, forward-thinking Director of Curricular Affairs to provide strategic leadership for the Stanford MD Program’s required curriculum. This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced leader to shape the future of medical education at one of the world’s leading academic institutions, advancing curricular innovation, academic excellence, and continuous improvement across a complex, university-wide program.

Reporting into a collaborative academic leadership environment, the Director works closely with School of Medicine senior leadership, faculty curriculum deans, and the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Policy to guide curriculum strategy, planning, and implementation—including the ongoing evolution of the redesigned MD curriculum. The Director also serves as chief of staff to the Chair of CCAP, helping translate strategic priorities into effective policies, processes, and outcomes.

As the MD Program’s principal expert in curriculum policy and accreditation, the Director oversees the MD Program Competencies and Objectives framework, leads curriculum mapping and accreditation reporting, and ensures the curriculum meets evolving LCME standards. The role also provides strategic direction for curriculum and assessment technology, oversees operating budgets, and leads the team responsible for delivering seamless, high-quality day-to-day curriculum operations.

This position offers a unique opportunity to influence medical education at scale—bringing together strategic vision, academic collaboration, operational leadership, and innovation to enhance the educational experience and prepare future physicians for the evolving demands of healthcare.
