Wanderlust App is a travel planning platform that builds trip itineraries from real city and cost data, runs trips offline through a mobile "Trip Mode," and lets travelers publish and discover trips from each other. We're looking for a Data Engineer to help build and scale the data infrastructure behind our city, cost, and trip data — the foundation that powers itinerary generation, city guides, and search across 1,300+ cities and 190+ countries.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, clean, and transform city, cost, and travel data from multiple sources
- Build and own data models and schemas that support product features like itinerary generation, city guides, and trip search
- Partner with product and engineering teams to ensure data is accurate, timely, and accessible for both application features and internal analytics
- Monitor data pipeline health, troubleshoot failures, and implement testing and validation to catch data quality issues early
- Optimize data storage, query performance, and pipeline efficiency as data volume and usage grow
- Document data sources, transformations, and pipeline architecture for use by other engineering and product teams
What we're looking for
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related role
- Strong SQL skills and experience designing data models for analytical and operational use cases
- Hands-on experience building and orchestrating data pipelines (batch and/or streaming)
- Proficiency in a programming language commonly used for data engineering, such as Python or Scala
- Experience working with cloud data warehousing and storage systems
- Comfort working cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to translate requirements into reliable data infrastructure
Nice to have
- Experience with geospatial or location-based datasets
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or dbt
- Experience supporting data needs for consumer-facing mobile or web applications
