Data Engineer

DoubleTap Consulting is a software consultancy that builds custom websites, product platforms and internal software for streaming, SaaS and commerce teams, working with clients like Hulu, Auth0, Italic and Raven Health. The team is senior-only, with no account layer or junior bench — engineers work directly with clients from scoping through delivery. We're looking for a Data Engineer to build and maintain the data infrastructure that powers client platforms and internal tools across engagements.

What you'll do

• Design, build and maintain data pipelines that move and transform data reliably across client systems
• Model and optimize databases (primarily Postgres) to support application and reporting needs
• Build ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from third-party APIs and internal systems
• Partner directly with client stakeholders and engineers to understand data requirements and translate them into working systems
• Monitor data pipeline health, troubleshoot failures and improve observability
• Ensure data quality, consistency and security across environments

What we're looking for

• Professional experience building and operating production data pipelines
• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational databases, especially Postgres
• Experience with a modern programming language such as Python, Node.js or similar for data engineering work
• Comfort working directly with client teams and communicating technical tradeoffs clearly
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and deploying/monitoring data systems in production
• Ability to work independently on scoped engagements without heavy process overhead

Nice to have

• Experience with streaming data or real-time data pipelines
• Familiarity with Next.js/React or Node-based application stacks
• Experience setting up observability and release processes that a client team can own after handoff
