Backend Engineer

DoubleTap Consulting is a software consultancy that builds custom websites, product platforms and internal software for streaming, SaaS and commerce teams, working with clients like Hulu, Auth0, Italic and Raven Health. The team is senior-only — no junior bench, no offshore hand-off — and engagements are run directly by the engineers doing the work. We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join that team and take ownership of the systems and APIs behind client engagements, from architecture through to handover.

What you'll do

• Design, build and ship backend services and APIs for client platforms across streaming, SaaS and commerce
• Architect data models and integration layers connecting internal tools, dashboards and third-party systems
• Own infrastructure, observability and release process for your engagements, set up so client teams can run it independently
• Work directly with clients during scoping and delivery, with no account layer in between
• Review code and provide technical direction across engagements alongside other senior engineers
• Debug and resolve production issues, including performance and reliability work under real traffic

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including production systems at scale
• Strong proficiency with Node.js and Postgres, or directly comparable backend stacks
• Experience designing and building RESTful or GraphQL APIs and integrating third-party services
• Comfort owning infrastructure and deployment pipelines, not just application code
• Track record of working directly with clients or stakeholders to scope and deliver technical work
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, given the direct-access, no-account-layer model

Nice to have

• Experience with Next.js or React Native environments alongside backend work
• Experience with payment infrastructure such as Stripe Connect
• Background working in a consultancy or agency setting with multiple concurrent engagements
