DoubleTap Consulting builds custom websites, product platforms and internal software for streaming, SaaS and commerce teams, working senior-only with direct access between clients and the people doing the build. We're looking for a Web Performance Engineer to make sure the platforms we ship are fast in the field, not just in a lab report — improving load times, responsiveness and Core Web Vitals across client-facing sites and applications.
What you'll do
- Audit and improve page load, rendering and runtime performance across production Next.js and React applications
- Diagnose and fix performance regressions using tools like Lighthouse, WebPageTest, Chrome DevTools and real-user monitoring data
- Set and enforce performance budgets across builds, working with engineers during development rather than after launch
- Optimize asset delivery, caching, bundling and server-side rendering strategies for high-traffic and traffic-spike scenarios
- Partner with engineering and design to make performance a design constraint, not an afterthought
- Instrument applications with observability tooling to track performance metrics over time and catch regressions early
What we're looking for
- Several years of hands-on experience optimizing web application performance in production environments
- Strong command of browser rendering behavior, network waterfalls, and JavaScript execution performance
- Practical experience with Next.js or React at a level that includes performance tuning, not just feature work
- Familiarity with CDN configuration, caching strategies and modern build tooling (Webpack, Turbopack, or similar)
- Comfort communicating performance findings and tradeoffs directly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in a small, senior team where you own outcomes end to end
Nice to have
- Experience with Node.js backends and API performance tuning
- Familiarity with React Native performance considerations across iOS, Android and web
- Experience with Postgres query performance as it relates to application response times
