HireAIScore operates an independent directory that scores AI hiring vendors against a published rubric tied to the EU AI Act, NYC Local Law 144, the Colorado AI Act, and Illinois HB 3773. We're hiring a Backend Engineer to help build and scale the systems behind our scoring platform, vendor directory, and public-facing tools.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain backend services that power vendor scoring, the public directory, and comparison tools
- Develop and maintain APIs used by internal editorial tooling and the public-facing site
- Work with structured data models representing rubric scores, sub-criteria, vendor profiles, and version history
- Ensure data integrity and auditability across scoring changes, re-reviews, and rubric version diffs
- Collaborate with editorial and product staff to translate methodology requirements into reliable, well-tested systems
- Improve performance, reliability, and observability of production services as usage grows
What we're looking for
- Professional experience building backend services in a language such as Python, Go, Java, Ruby, or Node.js
- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling, including handling versioned or historical data
- Experience designing and maintaining RESTful or GraphQL APIs
- Comfort working with data integrity, auditability, or compliance-adjacent requirements
- Familiarity with testing practices, CI/CD, and writing maintainable, well-documented code
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with non-engineering stakeholders
Nice to have
- Experience with content-heavy or directory/marketplace-style products
- Familiarity with data governance, audit trails, or regulatory/compliance domains
- Experience supporting public-facing tools with strict accuracy requirements
