Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe is looking for an outstanding transactional lawyer to join our commercial legal team supporting our fast-growing business in EMEA. We are committed to building an inclusive work environment where all Stripes feel welcomed as their authentic selves—inclusive of all genders, sexual orientations, ethnicities, races, education, ages, and other personal characteristics. We work on broadening our internal diversity because we want to be culturally equipped to build products and solutions for our diverse user base.

What you'll do

As a core member of our Commercial Legal team, you'll have the opportunity to build strategic relationships with regional sales leaders. You'll act as a force multiplier, directly influencing the growth of Stripe's business in EMEA. We trust you to exercise independent judgement and encourage you to bring forward ideas for scaling and streamlining our contracting process. You'll have the opportunity to develop your legal knowledge and technical skills working at the frontier of payments and fintech innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the EMEA sales team, leading negotiations and advising on a wide range of commercial and legal issues
  • Be an integral part of the build out of Stripe's commercial legal infrastructure so that we can scale and operate efficiently at pace with Stripe's exponential growth—this work includes drafting and maintaining Stripe's agreements and playbooks, leading and contributing to projects to improve internal processes and operational efficiencies
  • Work with teams across Stripe, including sales, privacy, operations, product, tax, and risk groups
  • Develop and deliver training and other resources to help the Sales team sell our products
  • Be a point of escalation for outside counsel

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant experience as a lawyer in-house or in a technology practice group in a top law firm
  • Intellectually curious and a creative problem solver—Stripe's products and our industry are complex and ever evolving—you relish learning new things and finding creative solutions to challenging problems
  • A self-starter with a bias for action—you're proactive and have a strong sense of ownership
  • A clear and concise communicator (in written and verbal forms), who distills the key risks and explains complex, nuanced issues in plain and simple terms
  • A natural collaborator, able to guide cross-functional teams and drive to a win-win solution
  • Familiar with the range of legal issues and commercial risks that arise in connection with hosted data and technology services
  • A team player who is willing to do what it takes to contribute to the collective success
  • High professional fluency in French and English

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working in payment or fintech industries and knowledge of associated regulatory issues
  • In-house experience advising high-growth technology companies
  • A working knowledge of relevant data protection and AI regulations
