Design Systems Engineer

DoubleTap Consulting is a software consultancy that builds custom websites, product platforms and internal software for streaming, SaaS and commerce teams, working as a senior-only team with direct, no-layer access between clients and builders. We're hiring a Design Systems Engineer to build and maintain the design systems that power our client engagements — turning interface design into reusable, well-documented, production-ready code across multiple codebases and teams.

What you'll do

• Design, build and maintain component libraries and design systems used across client web and product engagements
• Translate design direction and prototypes into accessible, well-tested, reusable components
• Partner with designers and engineers to define tokens, patterns and documentation standards
• Ensure design systems scale across brands, themes and platforms without duplicated effort
• Audit existing UI for consistency and refactor toward shared components where it pays off
• Support client teams in adopting and extending the system after handoff

What we're looking for

• Strong experience building component libraries or design systems in React (or similar frameworks)
• Solid command of HTML, CSS and modern styling approaches (CSS-in-JS, Tailwind, design tokens, etc.)
• Experience working closely with product designers, including translating Figma or similar tools into code
• Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and how to bake them into components
• Comfort documenting components and patterns so other engineers can self-serve
• Ability to work directly with clients and own outcomes without a layer of account management in between

Nice to have

• Experience with Next.js and Node/Postgres-based stacks
• Familiarity with React Native for design systems that span web and mobile
• Prior consulting or agency experience across multiple concurrent client engagements
