Job descriptionFull Time

Casework produces AI Act conformity files, Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments, and Article 9 risk documentation for companies deploying AI hiring tools, working across the EU AI Act, Colorado AI Act, Illinois HB 3773, and NYC LL 144. We are hiring Employment Counsel to guide the substantive legal quality of these deliverables and help ensure our documentation frameworks hold up to regulatory and client scrutiny.

This role sits at the intersection of employment law and AI regulation, working closely with our production team as we build conformity packs, risk registers, and monitoring plans for clients' hiring AI tools. You will not be issuing legal opinions on our clients' behalf, but you will be the internal legal expert ensuring our methodology reflects current and emerging employment law obligations across multiple jurisdictions.

What you'll do

  • Review and advise on the employment-law accuracy of conformity files, FRIAs, and risk documentation produced for client engagements
  • Track and interpret developments under the EU AI Act, Colorado AI Act, Illinois HB 3773, NYC LL 144, and emerging state and federal AI employment regulations
  • Partner with the production team during discovery and drafting to flag legal risk and ensure documentation aligns with regulatory requirements
  • Help refine and update Casework's documentation methodology as new regulations and guidance are issued
  • Support client-facing conversations where legal context or clarification is needed, in coordination with client counsel
  • Contribute to published methodology and regulation explainers that inform Casework's public-facing content

What we're looking for

  • J.D. and active bar admission, with a practice background in employment law
  • Experience advising on compliance with employment-related regulatory regimes (e.g., EEOC guidance, state fair employment practices, or similar)
  • Familiarity with, or strong interest in, AI governance and algorithmic accountability frameworks
  • Ability to translate dense regulatory text into clear, actionable documentation requirements
  • Strong written communication skills; comfort working on tight, fixed-timeline production cycles
  • Comfort working independently in a small, specialized team rather than a traditional law firm structure

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with EU AI Act, Colorado AI Act, Illinois HB 3773, or NYC Local Law 144 specifically
  • Experience reviewing or drafting Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments or algorithmic bias audits
  • Background working with or advising HR technology or HR tech vendors
