Job description
Casework runs four-week, fixed-price AI Act conformity engagements for mid-market companies using AI in hiring, producing conformity files, Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments, and Article 9 risk documentation aligned to the EU AI Act, Colorado AI Act, Illinois HB 3773, and NYC LL 144. We're hiring a Lawyer to help build and deliver the legal substance of these engagements — working directly with clients' legal, HR, and engineering teams to produce documentation that regulators can review and deployers can stand behind.
What you'll do
- Draft and review Fundamental Rights Impact Assessments (FRIA), Risk Management System documentation, and Annex IV-aligned conformity files for client hiring AI tools
- Interpret and apply requirements from the EU AI Act, Colorado AI Act, Illinois HB 3773, NYC LL 144, and related emerging state regimes
- Lead or support discovery interviews with client engineering, HR, legal, and vendor stakeholders to identify documentation gaps
- Translate technical and operational evidence from AI vendors into regulator-ready legal documentation
- Advise on remediation roadmaps for compliance gaps that cannot be closed through documentation alone
- Participate in client-facing review calls and final walkthroughs of delivered conformity files
What we're looking for
- Law degree (JD or equivalent) and admission to practice, or substantial equivalent experience in regulatory/compliance counsel work
- Working knowledge of AI regulation, employment law, or data privacy law; familiarity with the EU AI Act or US state AI/employment regulations is a strong plus
- Ability to translate dense regulatory text into clear, structured, actionable documentation
- Strong project-based work habits — comfortable operating within fixed scopes, fixed timelines, and fixed deliverables rather than open-ended billing
- Excellent written communication; able to produce documentation clear enough for both counsel and non-lawyer stakeholders to use
- Comfort working directly with clients across legal, HR, and engineering functions
Nice to have
- Prior experience with HR tech, AI governance, or employment compliance
- Familiarity with AI hiring tools such as HireVue, Eightfold, Paradox, Workday Recruiting AI, or similar
- Experience working in a small, productized, or specialist advisory firm rather than a large traditional practice
